Vessel chartered by UN's WFP to deliver Ukrainian wheat to Somalia

NEW YORK, UN. Dec 9 (Interfax) - Three bulkers, among them a vessel chartered by the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), departed Ukrainian ports on Thursday, the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) said.

"The Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) reports that three vessels left Ukrainian ports today [on December 8] carrying a total of 103,600 tonnes of grain and other food products under the Black Sea Grain Initiative," the center said.

In particular, the Neva vessel, chartered by the WFP, is carrying 25,000 tonnes of wheat to Somalia as part of humanitarian aid.

The Aeolian Vision is heading to China with 67,100 tonnes of corn on board, and the Fulmar S vessel is carrying 11,500 tonnes of soya beans to Egypt.

"Grains that reach a destination may go through processing and be trans-shipped to other countries," the JCC said.

Four inbound vessels transited the maritime humanitarian corridor under the Black Sea Grain Initiative on December 8, heading towards Ukrainian ports.

"As of 8 December, the total tonnage of grain and other foodstuffs exported from the three Ukrainian ports is 13,300,883 tonnes. A total of 1,069 voyages (536 inbound and 533 outbound) have been enabled so far," the JCC said.
