Use by Orban of scarf showing part of Ukraine as Hungarian territory does not contribute to bilateral relations - Ukrainian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax) - The use by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban of a scarf depicting some Ukrainian territory as part of Hungary does not contribute to the development of good neighborly relations between Kiev and Budapest, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oleg Nikolenko said.

"Hungary's Ambassador to Ukraine Istvan Ijgyarto was summoned to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on November 22. He was notified of the unacceptability of the fact that Prime Minister Viktor Orban appeared in public wearing a scarf depicting some Ukrainian territory as part of Hungary," Ukrainian media quoted Nikolenko as saying.

It was emphasized at the meeting with the Hungarian diplomat that such acts do not contribute to the development of good neighborly relations between Ukraine and Hungary, he said.

"It was noted that Ukraine is awaiting an apology for this incident and hopes that in the future the Hungarian side will refrain from steps that could be perceived as disrespect toward the territorial integrity of our state," Nikolenko said.
