Yuzhny Mining restarts after idling for four months

MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Yuzhny Mining and Processing Plant, a major iron ore producer from Ukraine's Dnepropetrovsk region, restarted on November 7 after idling since July 1.

The plant said in a press release that it planned to produce 173,000 tonnes of iron ore concentrate in November. Commercial iron ore products will be shipped to the Kametstal and Zaporozhstal steel mills.

The work load will be distributed among two beneficiation plants operating round the clock. Four processing units are starting up in total.

The open-cast mine will produce 398,000 tonnes of ore for processing in November. The ore will be transported by rail.

The rail transport, crushing and transport and slurry systems are also starting limited operations. Staff are being redeployed as and when needed. Ancillary divisions will also operate.

The November production target is 13.4% of the November 2021 level due to objective factors like inability to ship commercial products by sea from ports in Odessa and an electricity shortage since the beginning of October.

Yuzhny Mining was forced to idle on July 1. It was unable to export products to Asia and North Africa because the Odessa ports were blocked.

Iron ore concentrate production rose 6.1% in 2021 to 13.6 million tonnes.

The enterprise mines magnetite quartzites from the Skelevatskoye field in the central Krivoi Rog iron ore basin.

Metinvest and Lanebrook Ltd. controlled Yuzhny Mining at the start of this year.
