Ukrainian govt, UN system, USAID agree to create platform, headquarters to coordinate needs of regions to pass through winter

MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government, the United Nations system and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have agreed to establish a platform and a headquarters to coordinate the needs of regions to pass through this winter.

"The government has identified the needs of the regions to pass through the winter period and the needs for humanitarian assistance, and has already passed them on to the UN system. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said this at a coordination meeting between the Ukrainian government, the UN system and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)," the government press service said in a statement quoted by the Ukrainian media.

The authorities expect that UN representatives will shortly respond to the possibility of meeting the needs of Ukrainian regions, the prime minister said.

"We also propose holding meetings of the UN system in the next two weeks with all the regions and with certain central executive authorities in order to review the list and determine what assistance can be provided," the prime minister said.

He noted that the priority areas of humanitarian assistance for Ukraine are, in particular, the provision of essential goods to the most vulnerable strata of the population, housing repairs, etc.
