Uzbekistan will not resume servicing Mir cards for the time being - Uzbek Central Bank head

TASHKENT. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan's banks are refraining from servicing cards of the Russian Mir payment system due to the current risks, Board Chairman of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan Mamarizo Nurmuratov said on Thursday.

Resumption of their acceptance is not being discussed yet, he said.

"We are currently not considering resuming the operation of the Mir system," Nurmuratov told reporters at an economic forum held in Samarkand.

Nurmuratov said Uzbek commercial banks that use the system are currently facing high risks.

According to earlier reports, starting from September 23, Uzbekistan's unified processing center Uzcard suspended acceptance of cards of the Russian payment system Mir in the country, including co-badged cards abroad due to technical problems. At the same time, Uzcard's co-badged Mir cards are working normally on the territory of the country.
