Kyrgyzstan temporarily bans export of gold ore, concentrate from May 2023

BISHKEK. Oct 26 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan is imposing a temporary ban on the export of gold ore and concentrate, the presidential press service said in a report.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov "has signed a decree imposing a temporary ban on the export from Kyrgyzstan of gold ore and gold concentrate. A temporary ban on the export from the republic of gold ore and gold concentrate extracted and produced on the territory of Kyrgyzstan (classed by Code 2616 90 000 0 TN VED of the EAEU) for six months starting from May 1, 2023," the report said.

According to the decree, the Kara-Balta Mining Plant receives exclusive right to process gold ore and concentrate extracted and produced in Kyrgyzstan.

If necessary, the ban can be prolonged once in every six months, according to the presidential decree.

Some foreign mining companies operating in Kyrgyzstan currently do not fully process extracted gold ore in the country and export semi-finished products. In particular, these are Kazakh and Chinese companies.

The company Alliance Altyn of Russian businessman Musa Bazhayev, which develops the large gold mine Jerooy in Kyrgyzstan, has processing capacities in that deposit.
