Azerbaijan plans to triple capacities of 2 units of Azerbaijan TPP

BAKU. Oct 25 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed an instruction published on the Azerbaijani presidential website on Tuesday to modernize the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant.

According to the instruction, there are plans for the "rational modernization" of the Azerbaijan TPP by applying modern technologies to the current equipment with the goal of increasing the capacities of units N7 and N8, which are currently at a total capacity of 600 megawatts, by another 1,280 MW.

"The modernization of the Azerbaijan TPP is of great significance from the point of view of guaranteeing the country's energy stability, creating additional generating capacities, meeting energy needs, increasing export capabilities, protecting the environment, saving natural gas in the production of electricity, preventing climate change, and creating new jobs in the region," the instruction says.

Azerenerji has been instructed to adopt necessary measures to create additional generating capacity within the framework of the modernization of the Azerbaijan TPP. Corresponding instructions have also been given to the government.

The Azerbaijan TPP has eight units with 300 MW of installed capacity each and uses natural gas and fuel oil as fuel. It generates around 45% of all of Azerbaijan's electricity.
