Scholz, von der Leyen calling for new Marshall Plan for Ukraine

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have proposed launching a new Marshall Plan for Ukraine's post-crisis recovery, their joint article, which is published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, reads, according to Ukrainian media reports.

Scholz and von der Leyen said in the article that they had already begun to think about rebuilding Ukraine, even if peace still seemed distant. They noted that Ukraine needed the prospect that it could grow economically again as soon as the crisis was over.

According to German politicians, neither Ukraine nor individual partners will be able to cope with the task on their own, because the preliminary amount reaches at least 350 billion euros. In this regard, Scholz and von der Leyen proposed launching an "inclusive donor platform" that would allow for a more transparent allocation of funds for Ukraine's recovery.
