Erdogan considers it possible to use Kazakhstan's wheat potential for global food security

ASTANA. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan considers it possible to use wheat-rich Kazakhstan's potential to ensure global food security.

"We are fulfilling our obligations to the global community to ensure global food security at the appropriate level. I believe that the potential of wheat-rich Kazakhstan may be used in this respect," Erdogan was quoted as saying by the Kazakh presidential press service at a meeting of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Astana.

Kazakh Agriculture Minister Yerbol Karashukeev said the day before that the ministry had upgraded its forecast for the grain harvest in net weight in 2022, and it could total more than 19 million tonnes, up almost 16% from last year. The wheat harvest was earlier projected at 13.4 million tonnes in net weight, but it will exceed that by another 1 million tonnes this year, Karashukeev said.
