Putin instructs govt to establish Federal State Unitary Enterprise Zaporozhye NPP - decree

MOSCOW. Oct 5 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to establish Federal State Unitary Enterprise Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant with the goal of ensuring the security of Zaporozhye NPP nuclear facilities, according to the presidential decree published on Tuesday.

JSC Zaporozhye NPP Operating Organization will through its own efforts or with the involvement of other organizations perform activities to operate and remove from operation Zaporozhye NPP facilities, the decree said.

Zaporozhye NPP facilities and other property needed for its operation will become federal property.

Rosenergoatom is the founder of JSC Zaporozhye NPP Operating Organization. The new company was registered on October 3, its charter capital is two billion rubles, according to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (EGRUL).

The new organization is intended to ensure the safe operation of the nuclear power plant and the professional work of the plant's current staff with support from Rosenergoatom Concern. The company is led by Oleg Romanenko, former chief engineer of the Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant, Rosenergoatom said in its report.

All personnel of the nuclear power plant will be employed by the new organization. Simultaneously, the plant's state and restoration of damaged infrastructure will be assessed, Romanenko was quoted as saying in the report.

The Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It operates six VVER-1000 power units. The plant is not generating electricity now, as its last operating reactor was shut down on September 11.

Rosenergoatom is a Rosatom company. It runs the concern's Russian nuclear power plants. Rosenergoatom comprises 11 working nuclear power plants, including a floating nuclear thermal electric power plant, a scientific-technical center for emergency and technical work on the NPP, as well as a design branch and a technological branch. It operates a total of 37 nuclear power plant units with a total established capacity of over 29.5 gigawatts.
