Kazakhstan to prevent large mining cos from siphoning off funds to foreign accounts - Tokayev

ALMATY. Oct 5 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan is closely monitoring the activities of large mining companies and will not allow the funds to be transferred out of Kazakhstan and into offshore accounts, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

"The state is very closely monitoring the activities of all major mining companies operating in our country. We will not allow the funds to be diverted to foreign accounts. We will monitor the progress of mining companies in implementing all their social development projects," Tokayev said during a working trip to the Karaganda region.

Tokayev noted that special attention will be paid to industrial modernization and environmental protection.
