Russia imposes sanctions on Germany's Katharina UGS facility

MOSCOW. Oct 3 (Interfax) - Russia has imposed sanctions on Erdgasspeicher Peissen Gmbh, the operator of Germany's Katharina UGS facility.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has extended the list of legal entities that are subject to special economic measures by his decree of September 30. The document was published on the official online database of legal information.

The Katharina UGS is a project which is being implemented by Gazprom jointly with Verbundnetz Gas AG. The storage facility in rock salt caverns is located near Bernburg in the state of Saxony-Anhalt in eastern Germany. The facility is named after Russian Empress Catherine the Great.

Verbundnetz Gas AG had to seek state support amid the energy crisis in Europe.

Previously, the Gazprom Germania Group, which has been placed under external administration by the German government, was also added to the Russian counter-sanction list.
