Putin grants govt the right to ban int'l roadway transport of cargo via Russia from 'unfriendly' countries

MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted the government the right to impose a ban on international roadway transport of cargo via Russia by vehicles belonging to carriers from countries that have introduced similar bans against Russia.

"Grant the government of the Russian Federation the authority to impose a ban on international roadway transport of goods across the territory of the Russian Federation by trucks belonging to foreign carriers registered in foreign countries that have introduced restrictive measures in relation to citizens of the Russian Federation and Russian legal entities in the area of international roadway transport of cargo," according to the presidential decree posted on the official internet portal of legal information.

The decree also states that if such a ban is established, then the government must determine the validity timeframe; the list of countries that have introduced similar restrictions against Russia; the types of transportation to which the restriction applies; as well as the conditions for transporting to which the ban does not apply.
