Trade turnover of agricultural goods between Russia and Iran could grow 10-15% in 2022 - Rosselkhoznadzor

MOSCOW. Sept 9 (Interfax) - The turnover of agricultural products between Russia and Iran in 2022 may grow by 10-15% compared to the previous year, Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor cited head of the service Sergey Dankvert as saying in a meeting with Iran's Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Alireza Peman Pak.

According to Dankvert, Iran has seriously increased its presence in the Russian food market since 2019. According to FGIS "Argus-Fito", in 8M of this year it became one of the largest exporters to Russia of white cabbage (73,000 tonnes), kiwi (55,000 tonnes), pepper (37,000 tonnes), watermelons (36,000 tonnes), iceberg lettuce (19,000 tonnes), oranges (17,000 tonnes), eggplants (16,000 tonnes), apples (13,000 tonnes) and other products. In just 8 months of this year, Iran has delivered 416,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables to Russia.

Furthermore, the presence of Iranian dairy and fish products in the Russian market is increasing.

Russia exports wheat, corn and other crops to Iran.

However, the trade potential of the two countries is much wider, Dankvert said, and it should be realized on mutually beneficial and transparent conditions for suppliers of both countries. Russian companies, especially producers of livestock products, demonstrate an active interest in the Iranian food market.

For his part, Pemanpak stressed Iran's readiness to develop trade cooperation with Russia.
