Putin replaces Russian ambassador to Iran

MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Alexei Dedov has been appointed Russia's new ambassador to Iran, while Levan Dzhagaryan will take charge of the Russian embassy to Sri Lanka, consistent with the executive orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Dzhagaryan, who formerly served as the Russian ambassador to Iran since 2011, has been relieved of duties by a presidential executive order and appointed Russian ambassador to Sri Lanka with the concurrent accreditation in Maldives by another order.

Dedov was the Russian ambassador to Pakistan in 2013-2019, and worked at the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second Asian Department and the Russian embassy to Iran.

Former Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yury Materiy was appointed Russian ambassador to Cabo Verde.

Back on October 13, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Natalia Poklonskaya Russian ambassador to Cabo Verde, but she was relieved of duties on February 2, 2022, and appointed deputy head of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo).
