Moldova to purchase 33% of needed electricity from Ukraine in Sept - deputy PM

CHISINAU. Aug 31 (Interfax) - Moldova will continue to purchase the electricity that it lacks from Ukraine in September, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu said on social media.

"State company Energocom has concluded the following agreements for electricity supplies in September: an agreement for 67% of supplies has been concluded with Kuchurgan Power Station [owned by Inter RAO and located in Transdniestria] at $59.9 per megawatt-hour, an agreement for 30% of supplies has been concluded with Ukrainian company Energoatom at $77 per MWh, and an agreement for 3% (balance of peak consumption) has been concluded with Ukrhydroenergo at $100 per MWh," Spinu said.

The weighted-average price for August is $66.23 per MWh, Spinu said. "Importantly, the electricity rate for household consumers and economic entities remains unchanged," he said.

Moldova is purchasing electricity from the Kuchurgan Power Station in Transdniestria. The agreements have been concluded for one month only since March due to the energy crisis in the country and unstable gas prices. Due to Gazprom reducing gas supplies to Transdniestria since May, the Kuchurgan Power Station has warned Chisinau that it will be able to supply only 70% of the necessary volume of electricity to the right bank of the Dniester. Moldova has been purchasing the electricity that it lacks from Ukraine since May.
