Two new railroad sections built on Ukrainian-Romanian border - Ukrainian Railways CEO

MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Ukraine has opened two new railroad sections on the border with Romania, the Ukrainian media outlets said with the reference to Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznitsya) CEO Oleksandr Kamyshin.

"Rakhiv - Berlebash - state border and Teresva - state border. These are 19.3-kilometer and 1.1-kilometer lines built by our railroad workers within a record period of two months. In the future, these two sections will become the third and fourth tracks on the border with Romania, which is our busiest destination. Their opening will allow us to send another six pairs of freight trains a day. This means additional 3.5 million tonnes of cargo a year," Kamyshin said on Telegram.

The two sections also open a prospect for new passenger routes, such as interregional routes between Uzhhorod and Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernovtsy, as well as international routes between Ukrainian and Romanian cities from the side of both Uzhhorod and Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernovtsy, he said.

"Still, that will be possible after our Romanian colleagues repair their part of the line. By then, diesel-powered commuter train No. 6441/6442, Kolomyia -Rakhiv-Kolomyia will be operating there. Its route has already been extended to the Dilove station on the border with Romania," Kamyshin said.
