Russia to open National AI Development Center in Sept - Deputy PM Chernyshenko

KUBINKA, Moscow region. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The National AI Development Center will commence operation under the Russian government in September, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said.

"The National AI Development Center under the Russian government will open in Russia at the beginning of September. This center will serve as key platform to search for and analyze effective AI solutions for business, science and the government," Chernyshenko said at a plenary meeting of the Artificial Intelligence Congress on the sidelines of the Army 2022 international military-technical forum on Wednesday.

The National AI Development Center will help unlock the competencies of more than 2,000 participants in the AI system, such as research centers, government agencies, technological corporations, communities and developers, he said.

The share of AI implementation has reached 20% in certain industries, and will stand at no less than 50% by 2024, Chernyshenko said.

"As of this moment, the share of AI implementation has reached 20% in certain major industry leaders. We are expecting the share to reach at least 50% by 2024," he said.

Most large Russian companies have passed from the pilot stage to the active implementation of AI projects, yet more than 60% of entities lack the funding for such projects, Chernyshenko said.
