Russia registers 23,909 new cases of Covid-19, 59 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 23,909 new cases of Covid-19, as well as 3,411 hospitalizations and 59 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"As of August 16, Russia recorded 23,909 new cases of Covid-19. 3,411 patients were hospitalized, up 115.7% from the previous day," the headquarters said.

The number of hospitalizations has grown in 72 Russian constituent territories, has decreased in nine, and has remained unchanged in four, it said.

Fifty-nine patients died from Covid-19 over the day, as against 53 the day before.

The daily morbidity has decreased by 1,364 cases from 25,273 reported on Monday. The morbidity curve has been on decline for two consecutive days after nearly 29,000 infections were registered on August 14.

"Meanwhile, 20,583 patients have recovered over the day, up 33.6% from August 15," the headquarters said.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Russia has seen a total of 18,931,140 cases of Covid-19, including 383,237 deaths and 18,172,070 recoveries.
