Moldova to procure 30% of missing electricity from Ukraine

CHISINAU. Aug 1 (Interfax) - Moldova will procure 30% of missing electricity from Ukraine in August, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu said on Telegram on Friday.

"Of the total amount of capacities, 20% will fall on Energoatom, and 10% on Ukrhydroenergo at the same price. Both companies will supply electricity at the same price of $77 per MW/h," Spinu said.

The Moldovan GRES (situated in Transdniestria and owned by Russia's Inter RAO UES Group) will supply 70% of electricity at the price of $59.9 per MW/h, under a contract for July-August. According to Spinu, an average price of electricity to be delivered in August will stand at $65.03 per MW/h.

"This price allows us to keep the electricity charges unchanged for households and the economy," Spinu said.

It was reported earlier that the Moldovan government was buying electricity from the Moldovan GRES. Contracts have been concluded for one month only since March due to the energy crisis and fluctuating gas prices.

As Gazprom reduced gas supply to Transdniestria in May, the Moldovan GRES warned Chisinau it would be able to meet only 70% of the electricity demand on the western bank of the Dniester. Moldova has been purchasing the missing electricity from Ukraine since May.
