Belarus recalls its ambassador in London

MINSK. July 29 (Interfax) - The Belarusian ambassador to the United Kingdom has been recalled to Minsk due to the impossibility of engaging in a full-scale dialogue with the country, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

"We're reducing the level of our country's diplomatic representation in London to charge d'affaires ad interim," the Belarusian television channel CTV quoted Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anatoly Glaz as saying.

"This decision was made after the Belarusian ambassador to the United Kingdom was recalled," Glaz said.

Sanctions imposed on the employees of enterprises, the Belarusian economy and financial system, restrictions of operations of Belarusian media outlets, the unfounded ban on Belavia flights, refusal to issue visas for Belarusian parliamentarians to attend a session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and other unlawful restrictions do not allow for a full-scale dialogue at present, he said.

Nevertheless, the recall of the Belarusian ambassador does not mean that Minsk is closing the channels for communication with London, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.
