Ukrzaliznytsia agrees with PKN Orlen on long-term cooperation on fuel supplies

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia has reached agreement with Poland's PKN Orlen on long-term cooperation diesel fuel supplies, Ukrainian media reported citing the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry press service on Thursday.

Strategic cooperation has become possible owing to a successful record of supplies of petroleum products to Ukraine by PKN Orlen in the past months, it said.

"In particular, this implies systemic and prompt fuel supplies. Hence, we hope not only for improving the fuel shortage situation but also for reducing the price for diesel fuel at filling stations. We plan to satisfy the country's key fuel needs in the near future," Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said.

Ukrzaliznytsia is also working with other major suppliers of petroleum products to provide the necessary amount of fuel to the Ukrainian economy, Ukrainian media reported.

As reported earlier, the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry and the Polish Infrastructure Ministry agreed in May to rescind permissions for all transport operators engaged in international fuel transportation.

Simultaneously, Ukraine is working to increase the throughput capacity of the crossing points on its western borders and develop a network of logistical hubs near its borders.

Ukrzaliznytsia has been designated as the state fuel importer for the economy's needs.
