Britain imposes ban on importing Russian gold, coal in August, oil on December 31

LONDON. July 21 (Interfax) - Britain has decided to introduce a ban on importing Russian coal in August and on importing oil at the end of December, the UK government reported on Thursday.

"An amendment is being adopted that bans the import of oil and petroleum products, coal and gold. Directly or indirectly purchasing or supplying these goods is also prohibited," according to the clarifications published on Thursday.

The ban also applies to providing technical support and financial services related to these products.

"The ban on importing gold came into force on July 21. The ban on importing coal comes into force on August 10, 2022, and on importing oil on December 31, 2022," the British government explained.

The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in April reported that the country would refuse to import Russian coal and oil during 2022, and then gas to the extent possible.

"By the end of 2022, the UK will end its dependence on Russian coal and oil and will cease importing gas as soon as possible after that," the FCDO said.
