Ukraine expects to harvest of 18-19 mln tonnes of wheat in 2022 - agrarian policy minister

MOSCOW. July 15 (Interfax) - Ukraine's wheat harvest will reach 18-19 million tonnes in 2022, which exceeds forecasts made when it was sown, and a cautiously optimistic forecast could be made in general regarding the harvest of all crops, Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Mykola Solsky said.

"The new harvest is enough, although it is much less than the last year's one, but still more than it was predicted when sowing. We have quite a lot of wheat, our forecast for it is 18-19 million tonnes, despite the fact that a lot of it has not been exported yet, and we annually consume 3-4 times less than what we're harvesting now. We're gathering the crops normally, with a minor delay, but it is due to the weather," Ukrainian media outlets quoted him as saying during the UA telethon.

Decent yields are expected for all crops sown in Ukraine, the minister said. At the same time, Solsky pointed out that whereas there are currently no negative factors which would affect it negatively, their appearance in the future cannot be ruled out until the very moment of harvesting.

As reported, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts in its July report the Ukrainian wheat harvest at the level of 19.5 million tonnes in the marketing year 2022-2023, its export at ten million tonnes, and domestic consumption within the country at 10.2 million tonnes. The corn harvest is estimated at 25 million tonnes, export at nine million tonnes, and domestic consumption within the country at 10.7 million tonnes.
