EU security center being set up in Moldova

CHISINAU. July 11 (Interfax) - The European Union Support Hub for Internal Security and Border Management in Moldova will be set up in Chisinau.

An agreement to this effect was signed by Moldovan Interior Minister Ana Revenco and European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson in Prague on Monday, the Moldovan Interior Ministry told Interfax.

The center is designed to "adapt the architecture of European security to the crisis situation" caused by the events in Ukraine. It will address the risks and threats jointly identified by the EU and Moldova, including trafficking in drugs, weapons, radioactive substances, illegal migration, crime and cyber threats.

Representatives of law enforcement agencies from all EU countries and European interior agencies are expected to begin working in Chisinau in the near future.

"This is a big step for peace and tranquility for all citizens of Europe and Moldova. We are strengthening the security belt of Europe on the border with war," Revenco said following the signing of the agreement.

She was backed by the European commissioner, who noted that Moldova's security is the EU security.
