Putin, Erdogan discuss economic cooperation, Ukraine, Syria in run-up to Russian-Turkish summit - Kremlin

MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have had a telephone call in the run-up to a Russian-Turkish summit planned for the near future to consider a variety of issues of mutual interest, the Kremlin press service said on Monday.

"Special attention was given to steps to further intensify economic cooperation, including measures to enhance its contractual legal framework, increase the volume of trade and the use of national currencies in settlements, as well as continue uninterrupted supplies of Russian energy resources," it said.

The two presidents agreed on maintaining close interaction along these tracks at the level of co-chairs of the bilateral intergovernmental commission and the leaderships of relevant agencies," it said.

Putin and Erdogan "continued exchanging opinions on the situation in and around Ukraine, including in the context of coordination of efforts to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea and grain exports to global markets," it said.

While discussing a settlement process in Syria, Putin and Erdogan "highlighted the importance of trilateral joint work within the Astana format, involving Iranian partners," it said.

Putin warmly greeted Erdogan and all Turkish people on the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha, the Kremlin said.
