More people leave than cross into Ukraine via Western borders for 1st time over past 12 days - border service

MOSCOW. July 7 (Interfax) - About 39,000 people left Ukraine via its western border Wednesday, July 6, compared to about 36,000 people on Tuesday, while some 37,000 crossed into Ukraine on Wednesday, the same as on Tuesday, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the State Border Service.

The number of trucks carrying humanitarian cargo cleared for crossing the border increased to 114 from the minimum of 40-75 observed in the previous three days, while the number of cars crossing into Ukraine has declined to 16,000-17,000 from 20,000 a day, after Ukraine repealed a customs duty exemption on imported cars on July 1.

According to the United Nations Refugee Agency information as of July 5, a total of 8.793 million people have departed Ukraine since February 24, with 4.472 million of these having crossed into Poland, 1.518 million Russia, some 905,100 Hungary, about 786,840 Romania, over 523,700 Moldova, 569,700 Slovakia, and 16,700 Belarus.

At the same time, according to the UN, 3,296 million people entered Ukraine between February 28 and July 5, exclusive of those who have arrived from Hungary, Russia, and Belarus.
