Russia, Venezuela discuss increasing, diversifying trade

MOSCOW. July 7 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faria held talks in Moscow at which they discussed working out measures to increase and diversify trade between their countries, the Russian government said on its website.

Trade between Russia and Venezuela rose by 26% year-on-year in the first four months of 2022 after growing by 50% in 2021.

"In addition to successful work in such traditional fields as energy and industry, Russia and Venezuela intend to also further expand close cooperation in the areas of transport, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and high technology," the statement said.

Among other things, the parties discussed cooperation between Russia's Federal Consumer Rights Protection Service and its Venezuelan counterparts on combatting infectious diseases and Russian pharmaceutical company Geropharm's work in Venezuela.
