Turkmen president calls ensuring firm Caspian security a key objective of cooperation in region

ASHGABAT. June 29 (Interfax) - Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has listed the need to ensure firm, lasting and indivisible security in the Caspian region among the main objectives and key conditions of successful cooperation between the five Caspian littoral states, the Turkmen news agency Orient said.

The Turkmen leader made these remarks at the 6th Caspian Summit in Ashgabat on Wednesday.

"In order for the Caspian region to remain an area of stability and trust, free from risks to peace and security, it is necessary to jointly counter terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime, and any other unlawful activity," Berdimuhamedov said.

Such cooperation should be uncompromising, systemic and transparent, he said.
