Ukraine should appreciate, be proud of EU candidate status - Zelensky

MOSCOW. June 27 (Interfax) - The people of Ukraine should appreciate and be proud of Ukraine's EU candidate status, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

There has been talk on the Internet, television and the radio about what the status means: what conditions Ukraine will have to meet, how difficult that could be, and how many years that may take, Zelensky said.

"I'd like to say the following: let us be happy for a moment," Ukrainian media outlets quoted him as saying in a video address in the early hours of Saturday.

Ukrainians should not diminish their success, he said.

Zelensky added that Ukrainians should not be scared of the EU requirements. "We have already met hundreds [of requirements] earlier. Let us not forget about that. This is not bragging, this is an understanding of the fact that we will definitely cover this path. We will not stop. We will climb our Everest," he said.
