Currently no threat to Ukraine from Belarus - Ukrainian intelligence chief

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - There is no threat at this point that the Belarusian Armed Forces could invade Ukraine, chief of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate Kyrylo Budanov said.

"There is no threat from the Belarusian side at this stage. I can tell you that with absolute certainty. The situation is completely under control," the Ukrainian media quoted Budanov as saying during the country's telethon.

The Belarusian Armed Forces have indeed intensified their activities, but they are not posing any threats to Ukraine, he said.

"Both reservist training and military exercises are continuing in Belarus. Border security is being beefed up. A whole range of these or those military-purpose measures are being taken. But they are not aiming for any military action against Ukraine at this point. If such thoughts come to their minds, we will know about it immediately and will take appropriate steps all together," Budanov said.
