Renovated Krakovets-Korczowa checkpoint on Ukrainian-Polish border begins operation

MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax) - The Krakovets-Korczowa checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Polish border, renovated within the framework of the Open Border project, has begun operation.

The renovated infrastructure has doubled the checkpoint capacity, Ukrainian media outlets said quoting a statement by Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov on social media.

"Improved logistics between Ukraine and Europe is crucial," Kubrakov said.

Ukraine is planning to develop the Open Border project at checkpoints on the borders with Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova, Kubrakov said.

"We are implementing similar projects aimed to increase checkpoints' capacity on the borders with other western neighbors. We are negotiating the inclusion of Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova in the Open Border project," he said.

The Open Border project aims to eliminate bottlenecks on the western border and to improve Ukraine-EU logistics. The goals will be achieved through renovation of checkpoint infrastructure, including access roads, construction of additional checkpoints, and joint border and customs control with western neighbors.
