Tokayev sees India, China among major investors in EAEU economy within 10-year period

NUR-SULTAN. June 17 (Interfax) - Asian countries, including China and India, might become major investors in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) economy within the next decade, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

"In the next decade, such historically friendly countries as China, India, countries of the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia might become major investors in our region's economy," Tokayev said at a plenary session of the 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday.

China has already become a principal economic and foreign trade partner of Kazakhstan, he said.

"This country has invested over $21 billion in our economy over the past 15 years. Therefore, deeper multifaceted cooperation with China is an extremely important goal for our country," he said.

Not only political aspects are relevant in this context, he said.

"We have to bolster direct ties between business entities and build new transport and logistics corridors. Looking promising are joint efforts to build a pool of breakthrough innovative-technological projects, continuous transport-logistic chains, and ultimately, create new opportunities for global economic growth," he said.
