Net passenger traffic into Ukraine via western border continues to grow

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - More passengers have been arriving in Ukraine across its western border than leaving, Ukrainian mass media said on Monday, citing the State Border Guard Service.

According to the service, nearly 31,000 people left Ukraine on June 5, as against 38,000 the day before, while the number of arrivals stood at nearly 40,000 and 43,000, respectively.

The number of humanitarian trucks cleared on the border decreased from 189 to 146 over the day, the service said.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees reported that in the period between February 24 and 1 p.m. on June 1, a total of 6.983 million people left Ukraine, including 3.69 for Poland, 1.041 million for Russia, 587,220 for Romania, 483,310 for Moldova, 698,420 for Hungary, 466,260 for Slovakia, and 16,670 for Belarus.

Meanwhile, 2.102 million people arrived in Ukraine between February 28 and June 1, without due account of the information from Hungary, Russia and Belarus, the UN said.
