EU suspends broadcasting of another 3 Russian TV channels in its territory

BRUSSELS. June 3 (Interfax) - The European Union is suspending the broadcasting activities in the EU of several Russian television channels, including RTR Planeta, as part of its sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions, the Council of the EU said in a statement.

"The EU is suspending the broadcasting activities in the EU of three more Russian state-owned outlets: Rossiya RTR/RTR Planeta, Rossiya 24 and TV Center International," it said.

Brussels claims that the Russian authorities use these TV channels to "manipulate information" and to promote disinformation with the aim of destabilizing the situation in the EU.

Meanwhile, these TV channels and their staff will be able to continue carrying out activities in the EU other than broadcasting, e.g. research and interviews, it said.
