Ukrhydroenergo signs memorandum with Germany's Andritz Hydro, MAN Energy Solutions on cooperation in hydrogen projects

MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian company Ukrhydroenergo has signed a memorandum on cooperation in developing and implementing green hydrogen projects with the German companies Andritz Hydro and MAN Energy Solutions, Andriy Lets, chief of the technical support division at Ukrhydroenergo's innovative projects department, said on Thursday.

"We have signed a memorandum with Andritz Hydro and MAN Energy Solutions on cooperation in developing and implementing green hydrogen production projects in Ukraine. This field is extremely important not only for Ukraine but also for the whole of Europe these days," Lets said during an Energy Club online discussion on hydrogen production in Ukraine.

Ukrainian media said Lets was convinced that the memorandum would give rise to global processes that should help start a hydrogen hub in the future, enabling Ukraine to gain tangible energy independence.

Ukrhydroenergo, Andritz Hydro, and MAN Energy Solutions are working together to launch a 1 MW pilot electrolysis plant for producing green hydrogen.

The pilot facility should produce 100 kilos of hydrogen daily, Lets said. Ukrhydroenergo can potentially produce green hydrogen by using renewable sources through electrolysis of water, he said.

"This is a promising type of energy, which is also important for decarbonizing the economy and for Ukraine's entering new markets," he said.
