Matthias Warnig could soon quit Transneft board, member says

UFA. May 24 (Interfax) - The CEO of Nord Stream 2 AG, Matthias Warnig, could leave the Transneft board of directors, Gennady Shmal, a fellow director at the Russian oil pipeline operator, told Interfax.

Warnig has already said he is unable to extend his term as member of the board of directors at the state-owned oil company Rosneft .

"Given the situation there is such a question regarding him. It looks like there as well [in the EU, which has imposed sanctions against Russian oil and gas companies] they are prohibiting him [from serving on a board of directors]. I've heard there has been such notification from Warnig, there has been communication. He could leave this position at the end of June, I think," Shmal said.

Shmal is the president of the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia. The Transneft board also includes Deputy Russian Prime Minister Alexander Novak; former governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev, now chairman of the board of directors at LLC Aeromax; Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) chief Kirill Dmitriev; former Bashneft head Alexander Korsik; chairman of the board of Sovcomflot Ilya Klebanov; Transneft chief Nikolai Tokarev and First Deputy Russian Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin.
