Kremlin intends to carefully analyze Poland's decision to tear up agreement with Russia on Yamal-Europe pipeline

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax) - Poland's decision to tear up the agreement with Russia on the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline requires attention and thorough analysis, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

"Of course, as for the transit side of this case (breaking the agreement with Russia), I think Gazprom is ready to give more detailed explanations if necessary. But this is a topic that, of course, deserves attention with the understanding that there are also alternative routes for gas supplies, which, by the way, are operating under pressure at the moment," Peskov said when asked to comment on the relevant decision by Polish authorities.

"We can hardly speak of any contractual relations at the moment - Poland refused to pay for gas, so in order for gas to be supplied, we need some documentary arrangements and payment," he said.

The Kremlin spokesman recalled that Poland had long ago refused to pay for Russian gas, but continues to receive Russian gas indirectly, buying it at great expense from the other side according to the well-known arrangement.

"Nobody will take it upon themselves to predict what is to follow, because this is simply impossible. We can see now what a frenzied position, on the verge of madness, is being taken by the Polish authorities, so it is hardly possible to predict anything," Peskov said.

Peskov once again stressed the need to "carefully analyze the possible consequences of [Poland's tearing up of the agreement with Russia on the gas pipeline] for transit.
