Avtovaz appoints Yevgeny Shmelev as vice president for engineering

MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Avtovaz has appointed Yevgeny Shmelev, the company's former vice president for technical development, as the new vice president for engineering, the Russian automaker's press service said in a statement.

Shmelev had worked at federal state unitary enterprise NAMI since 2019. Renault had transferred a 68% stake in Avtovaz to NAMI to manage.

According to the press service, Shmelev has replaced Selcuk Cura as of May 19. Cura had been Avtovaz's executive vice president for engineering since 2018, prior to which he had been Renault's vice president of the light commercial vehicle engineering division; vice president of chassis engineering in France, then at Nissan in Japan; and led the Renault Megane II Sedan, Dacia Lodgy and Dacia Dokker projects.
