Transdniestria talks at impasse, 5+2 meeting not to be held - Russian Foreign Ministry

NIZHNY NOVGOROD. May 17 (Interfax) - An international meeting on the Transdniestrian settlement process planned for May in the 5+2 format will not be held, and the negotiations are at an impasse, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said on Tuesday.

"Regretfully, this negotiating process is also at an impasse. To our knowledge, the meeting in May will hardly take place," Rudenko told reporters in Nizhny Novgorod in response to a question about progress of the 5+2 negotiations.

The situation in Transdniestria "is stable at the moment. What happens next will depend on multiple factors, including Ukraine," Rudenko said.

The 5+2 format includes the conflicting sides, the intermediaries and observers - Moldova, Transdniestria, the OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, the European Union and the United States.
