Canada scraps 77% duty on hot rolled steel from Ukraine imposed 20 years ago

KYIV. May 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Canada has scrapped the 77% duty on goods from Ukraine as it reviewed the restrictions on hot rolled carbon and alloy steel sheet and strip from Brazil, China, India and Ukraine imposed in 2001.

"The Tribunal rescinded its order with respect to the dumping of such goods originating in or exported from Ukraine. The Tribunal found that the continued or resumed dumping of these goods was not likely to result in injury," the Canadian International Trade Tribunal said in a statement published on the Canadian government website.

The restrictive measures continue to apply to products from Brazil, China and India.

"The 77% duty on hot rolled carbon steel sheets from Ukraine has been in effect in Canada since August 2001, which practically deprived our manufacturers of an economic incentive to export their products to Canada. Twenty years later, Ukrainian steel products can be exported to Canada again," Ukrainian Ambassador Yulia Kovaliv said on social media.
