Berlin wants to obligate sanctioned Russians to report property in Germany

BERLIN. May 4 (Interfax) - Berlin is considering how Russian citizens affected by the European sanctions could be legislatively required to disclose their property in Germany.

"A new instrument is being discussed, which we are testing inside the cabinet of ministers. We are checking whether persons included in the sanctions lists can be legislatively obligated to report their property in Germany," German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said following a meeting of government officials at a countryside residence in Meseberg.

Property checks can lead to fines, he said.

The first draft of such a bill could be submitted by next Monday so that Bundestag deputies could work with it, Lindner said.
