Azerbaijan never planned to compete with Russia on European gas market - Aliyev

BAKU. April 29 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan has no intention to compete with Russia on the European gas market, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

"We have never thought about competing with Russia on the European gas market, as the supply volumes are incomparable," Aliyev said at a meeting with delegates to the international conference "South Caucasus: Development and Cooperation" on Friday.

All Azerbaijan has ever wanted is to have access to the stably regulated European market. "We sell gas to various kinds of consumers, but Europe is the one paying the best price," he said.

Russia has never had questions about the energy policy of Azerbaijan, Aliyev said. "I am sure that this issue [Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe] will never have negative implications for our relations with Russia," he said.
