Ukraine needs clear understanding of its economic development - Zelensky

KYIV. April 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for developing a clear understanding of Ukraine's economic development after the current events in the country are over.

"Certainly, as comfortable and liberal environment as possible should be provided to small and medium-sized businesses from the standpoint of taxes and administrative conditions," Zelensky said in a video address on Monday evening.

"Digitalization is a top priority. Another top priority is security. The defense capability should be at a new level," Zelensky said.

"The judicial, anti-corruption, and other important reforms should be brought to an end," and all of this should be focused on what Ukraine looks like "in a year, in five, in ten, and in twenty years," he said.

"We're developing a comprehensive plan, which envisions the reconstruction of what has been destroyed, the modernization of government institutions, and the acceleration of Ukraine's development as much as possible," he said.

"We're speaking not only about the scope of work but also about reconsidering the way the country will develop in the future, what industries could serve as a foundation for growth, and what solutions and resources are needed to increase the share of processing industries in Ukraine rather than sell feedstock, as it was before," he said.

Virtually all discussions on Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction that are currently being held in the country are focused on money, Zelensky said. "But money is not a foundation for the country's development. Ideas and people are a foundation," he said.
