Ukraine-Russia talks continuing, proceeding difficultly - Kyiv officials

KYIV. April 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Russia is using the tactics of exerting pressure on the negotiating process, advisor to the Ukrainian presidential office chief Mykhailo Podolyak said.

"The negotiations are proceeding extremely difficultly. [They are taking place] online in working groups. However, they are taking place. Clearly, the emotional background in the negotiating process is difficult today. Clearly, the Ukrainian delegation is working solely within the pro-Ukrainian framework. The Russian side adheres to the tactics of exerting pressure on the negotiating process," Podolyak told journalists on Tuesday evening.

In turn, David Arakhamiya, head of the Ukrainian delegation at talks on security guarantees, refuted Russia's statement that Kyiv changed its negotiating position.

"The Ukrainian side adheres to the Istanbul communique and has not changed its position. The only difference is that we are not taking into account all additional issues that were not included in the Istanbul communique. Maybe, this caused erroneous interpretation of the current state of affairs in the negotiating process," Arakhamiya wrote on Telegram on Tuesday.

The negotiations on security guarantees for Ukraine have continued online, he said.
