Japan's Komatsu suspends deliveries to Russia, production of specialized machinery in country

MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - Japanese specialized machinery manufacturer Komatsu has stopped deliveries to Russia and production at its local plant in Yaroslavl (Komatsu Manufacturing Rus LLC), the company said in a statement.

The manufacturer said it was concerned about the situation in Ukraine and noted serious problems due to disruptions in the supply chain, as well as the continuing unstable economic conditions.

"Komatsu has now suspended deliveries and production at its plant in Russia," the manufacturer said in a statement.

Komatsu has been supplying machinery to Russia since 1969. The company's own factory in Russia has been operating since June 2010. Komatsu invested $150 million in the Yaroslavl plant. The company produces hydraulic excavators (capacity of up to 3,000 units per year) and dump trucks (100 units per year).

Maksim Avdeev, deputy head of the Yaroslavl regional government, told reporters in early March that Komatsu employs 400 people at the Yaroslavl plant, noting that the company plans to maintain the staff and wage levels.
