Finland halts freight rail traffic with Russia

MOSCOW. March 27 (Interfax) - VR Transpoint, a subsidiary of Finland's rail operator VR Group, suspended the traffic of freight wagons from Russia on Sunday.

VR Group said the return of wagons from Finland to Russia would continue for now.

"The continuation of freight traffic between Russia and Finland is no longer possible because of the sanctions imposed on Russian Railways (RZD). VR Group is obliged to comply with the sanctions imposed by the Western countries," VR Transpoint Senior Vice President Martti Koskinen said.

As reported, VR Group will halt passenger rail traffic between Russia and Finland by Allegro trains on March 28.

VR Group said on March 1 that it was terminating cooperation with Russian Railways, except for cross-border transport. The decision was to be valid until further notice.
