Zelensky disappointed by EU leaders' decision on Ukraine's European integration

KYIV. March 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The decision by the leaders of the European Union countries concerning Ukraine's European integration made at a meeting in Versailles on Thursday is "not what we are expecting," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address on Friday.

"How do we assess the decision made? Very simply: it should be stronger. This is not what we are expecting," he said.

"Decisions made by policymakers should be consonant with the sentiments of European peoples. After all, we know these sentiments. And they know these sentiments, too," he said.

"There is support [for Ukraine's European integration]. At least sixty percent are in favor. This is an overwhelming majority," he said.

"The decision the EU leaders made at their meeting yesterday is now going to the European Commission's level. The European Union should do more," he said.

Andriy Yermak, chief of the Ukrainian presidential office, said Ukraine is not considering "joining the EU by 50%" and that the Ukrainian people "choose 100%."

"An EU summit was held this night to discuss the prospect of Ukraine's membership. We are grateful for the decisions made. But Ukraine does not consider joining the EU by 50%. Our people choose 100%," Yermak wrote on Twitter.

The European Union leaders have endorsed the intention to continue strengthening ties and partnership with Ukraine, while granting Ukraine candidate status for EU membership is not currently under consideration.
