ROC to challenge in CAS European Olympic Committees' decision to ban Russians from European Youth Olympic Festival

MOSCOW. March 10 (Interfax) - The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) to bar Russians from participating in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Finland, the ROC press service said.

"The Russian Olympic Committee believes that this decision, made by the EOC Executive Committee, is unlawful, unfounded and discriminatory against young Russian athletes. Having exhausted all opportunities to settle the dispute in an extrajudicial procedure in order to protect the rights and interests of Russian athletes, the Russian Olympic Committee sent an appeal against the EOC Executive Committee`s decision of 2 March 2022 to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (Switzerland) on March 10 2022," the statement said.

The Russian Olympic Committee will additionally report on the format and timing of the CAS consideration of the appeal, as well as other information regarding this case.

The festival will take place in Finland's Vuokatti from March 20 to 25.
