Putin informs Egyptian president of Russian military operation in Ukraine, talks with Ukrainian representatives - Kremlin

MOSCOW. March 9 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has had a telephone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the Kremlin press service said on Wednesday.

"At Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's request, Vladimir Putin spoke about the reasons and objectives of the Russian special military operation to protect Donbas and informed him about work being done by Russia at negotiations with Ukrainian representatives. The Egyptian president thanked the Russian side for efforts it is making to evacuate Egyptian citizens from the conflict zone," the Kremlin said.

Putin and el-Sisi discussed the "continued development of [our] strategic partnership, including the implementation of major joint projects in the nuclear energy and industry sectors," it said.

"Both parties also expressed their interest in continuing close cooperation in the tourism and agrarian sectors," it said.

The two presidents agreed to continue contacts at various levels, it said.
